Walleye Fishing Tips
Fishing: We are extremely fortunate to be located on beautiful Banning Lake - the center of the famous Seine Chain of Lakes and part of the Historic Boundary Waterway. The 5 lakes - Calm, Banning, Chub, Perch and Little McCauley - are drained by the Seine River and offer in excess of 35 miles of water to fish and explore without a portage (see map below).

The 5 lakes combine to provide virtually unlimited fishing opportunities for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Perch. While many of our guests have been fishing our home system for years and have their own favorite "holes" each time out can bring the gratifying discovery of a new drop off or ridge to test your angling skills.

Professional fishing guides are available with advanced notice. Rate is approximately $160 cdn. per day. Free fishing licenses for those who book a week long tip in September.

The seemingly endless shoreline of this system provides dozens of weedy bays with a reputation for harbouring excellent Northern Pike while the rocky shores are as popular as the bays for superb Smallmouth Bass fishing. The lakes feature depths in places of over 200 feet.

The narrows between the lakes contribute a section of water with a quicker current and varying depths with rocky bottoms. These are favorite spots to troll or still fish for Walleye and Smallmouth Bass as are the dozens of islands throughout the system.

If you are the type of fisherman who likes to fish under a dam then look no further than the northwest tip of Calm Lake. Many guests who enjoy "dam fishing" love this spot and have had excellent success with all sizes and types of fish.

For boats, we have 15hp - 4 stroke Honda outboards and 16' Naden boats with swivel seats.

On the east end of the system you can fish the mouth of Boyce Rapids where the water tumbles into the Seine Chain.

We also have a number of deep, clear lakes nearby that provide excellent Lake Trout fishing (see Flora Lake on map). These lakes are accessible by walking through a wilderness trail (we have boats on the lakes and portage motors are available) or by driving ( boats can be launched at the lakes).

Miranda Lake is one such lake noted on the map and although it does not harbour any "Lakers" it has an excellent reputation for Northern Pike. The Miranda Northern are plentiful and all run a good size. A day trip in to Miranda is sure to reap a bountiful fishing adventure.

Although Twinling Lake is a fairly small body of water but it offers excellent Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike fishing and has seen several trophies of each species caught from it's waters. Many anglers enjoy an afternoon of Perch fishing in Twinling as a change of pace from the other more popular sportfish.

Although the majority of our guests fish our home Seine River system, there are literally dozens of lakes a short walk or drive away allowing you unlimited choice of fishing opportunities. Pick ups and drop-offs are available for guests wishing to fish different systems throughout our wilderness area. Use our friendly comfortable camp as a base for your wilderness adventure and we'll be happy to help guide you through the maze of lakes, rivers and wilderness that is Northwestern Ontario's Sunset Country.
